Boat Security 101: Protecting Your Vessel in Delta Against Theft and Vandalism

Having a boat is wonderful, and there are many boat owners on the Lower Mainland, such as in Delta, because of the close proximity to the ocean and the availability of plenty of marinas. However, protecting a vessel with security measures is a real need, and today there are many options available to help you. In today’s blog article, we are going to talk about the ways that modern security can help protect your vessel against theft and vandalism.
Intrusion
First of all, there are many ways to protect a vessel against intrusion. One can have motion detectors that sense the presence of someone, shock detectors, door and window position sensors, broken glass detectors, and door and window breach sensors.
Video
It is also possible to have video surveillance to some or all the parts of your boat. Cameras can zoom, pan, tilt, and there are also infra-red options in case it is totally dark. These are high resolution images that show you exactly what is going on.
In addition to these features, your security activity can be saved and reviewed.
We have not even mentioned the other types of security features available such as monitoring water levels, fire detection, and carbon monoxide. The types of security today that one can have for a vessel are quite sophisticated.
In order to send you and/or another designated person alerts, there must be cell service at the marina. This is a given. If there is Wi-Fi, then that is even better. The features described above are wireless, and you would have an app on your phone allowing remote access and control.
Boats are always targets of thieves because they are often unattended, sitting silently in a marina waiting for the owner.
