Why Strata Councils in Langley Are Upgrading to Smart Access Control

Before we get into the benefits of Smart Access Control for Strata Councils in Langley and throughout the Lower Mainland, let us first take a look at what Smart Access Control means. In today’s blog we will first define Smart Access Control and then look at how it applies to stratas.

Smart Access Control

Smart Access Control, in the context of security, refers to a modern system that manages and/or restricts access to either or both physical and digital environments. Relying on a combination of hardware and software, Smart Access Control regulates entry and exit using digital credentials instead of traditional keys and locks.

Access

Access may be granted using smartphones, biometrics like fingerprints, or smart fobs. Special “readers” authenticate the access device. A main controller checks the permission against a preset list of rules to allow or deny access.

Benefits

The benefits of a Smart Access Control system are several, and especially for stratas where there may be multiple units and multiple individuals needing access to different units at different times.

It is easy to program this kind of system to allow, for example, cleaners to enter and exit during certain hours (or days) only. If a tenant moves out and takes his or her or fob with him or her, it is easy to nullify the access, instantly, and remotely.

This kind of system also logs all the access in and out, and so it removes the human error, when a security guard, for example, writes down or does not write down who came or left. Some systems also have tailgating prevention, so if you allow access to one person, it is logged if three other people follow inside behind the first.

Using this kind of technology is much more efficient than the old lock and key and human monitoring. While human intervention is still necessary, allowing access (or not) is much simpler and faster using a Smart Access Control system.
